Jesus is not a demi-god. Yet sadly, I have met many faithful Christians who believe that Mary was Jesus’ biological mother. That would make Him just that, a demi-god, and almost but not quite God. The idea that Mary was Jesus’ biological mother. This idea is not only heretical it is being taught by those many look to as teachers.
I regularly see respected pastors refer to James as Jesus’ half-brother. I have also seen noted televangelists make the same mistake. Many use the Hebrew word “ach,” which means Brother. These same people forget that it also means cousin based on context.
Demi-god vs. God
Some may not know what the difference is between a God and a Demi-god, so here is a quick explanation of the main separating factor between the two.
God: All-powerful and all-knowing being with creation power we cannot begin to understand.
Demi-God: Mythologically, the child born of god and a human woman. The biblical equivalent is the Nephilim. As described in Genesis 6. “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterwards, whenever the sons of God came to the daughters of men, and gave birth to them. Those were the mighty men of old, men of renown.”
So you see if Jesus was from one of Marie’s eggs, he could not be all God or all man. The Bible clearly states that Jesus was both All God and All man. In the Bible, many passages point to Him being all God and all man. Here are just 3 of many examples
Colossians 2:9: For all the fullness of Deity lives bodily in Him.
John 10:28-30: I give them eternal life! They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and tabernacle among us. We looked upon His glory, the glory of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.
I believe, based on the above and other passages that Mary was for all intents and purposes, what we would call a surrogate mother. It says the Word became flesh which points to what is called self-incarnation. Meaning Jesus independently entered into his creation using Mary as a means of doing so. The spirit did not fertilize her eggs.
As you can see from the passages that Jesus is not a Demi-God. He is infect God.
Be blessed and stay frosty my friends.
